Introducing Relay Safety Check!

Combining smart AI technology and real-time alerts, Safety Check protects students beyond content-filtering.  When triggered, Safety Check creates a case (assigned to a user) based on concerning web activity.

NOTE: Currently Safety Check only supports the Chrome Extension.  For instructions on deploying the Safety Check Extension, Click Here

To view the Safety Check report, log in to Relay and click Reports > Safety Check from the main navigation menu.


How is a case created?

An Incident is created if a student or teacher searches for a term that triggers Safety Check.
A case is an incident or multiple incidents related to one student.

What happens when there are multiple incidents?

If a case is open when further incidents occur, then the new incidents are appended to the open case.  If a case is closed when another incident occurs, then a new case is created.

When does a notification get sent?

A notification sends only when a new case is created.
If an incident is appended to an open case, a notification will not be sent.

Case Metrics

The Safety Check report includes a total of all Cases, Closed Cases, and Users. This page also includes a timeline of case activity, a list of Recent Cases (by date), and a list of Most Cases (by user).

Total Cases

Click on the Total Cases list to open a list of all open cases.

Closed Cases

Click on the Closed Cases list to open a list of all closed cases. Refer to this list to review and re-open closed cases.


Click on the Users total to open a list of all users associated with an open case. Click on any name in the list to open the User Information panel.


Hover over any point on the timeline to see the total number of cases opened for that day.

Recent Cases

The list of Recent Cases includes all cases opened within the last month (or the last 10 cases opened).

Most Cases

The list of Most Cases includes a list of users with the most cases currently (total number of cases by individual).

To review case details, click on the name of any user to open the User Information panel.

Then click on any of the open cases listed to expand the case details.

Expanded case details include the triggered keyword(s), a timestamp, URL, and a screenshot of the page where the keyword was found.

Click on any screenshot to open a full-screen view and click the up/down arrows (top-right corner) to navigate through the all screenshot images related to this case.

After reviewing case details, click the Mark Closed or Delete (Trash Icon)

After Selecting Closed or Delete you will be asked for a reason

To export a PDF of the case details, click on the download icon.

When reviewing a case that has been Closed or Deleted a record will show what user took the action.

Case Feedback

When closing a Safety Check case, select whether the case was legitimate, false positive, or neither. You may also add notes to the case so that additional stakeholders will have proper context when referring to the case.

Assign Safety Check Cases to an Admin

Assigning the case directly gives clear ownership and removes any ambiguity behind the point of contact.

From your list of Safety Check cases, select the one you would like to assign.

Select the pencil icon next to the Assigned To field to edit it.

From the dropdown menu, select the Admin user you would like to assign the case to. Click Assign.


District Owners (or any Admin Role with Safety Check enabled) automatically receive email notifications once new cases are opened.

Mute Safety Check Notifications

To mute (disable) your Safety Check notifications, click your profile avatar in the top-right corner of the Relay interface, then select Notifications from the profile menu.

Click on the toggle icon next to Safety Check to disable/enable email notifications (grey = disabled, green = enabled).
